A body found in the river Dearne near Lundwood is thought by police to be Gary Haines who had been missing since December.
Police have issued a statement saying Mr Haines's family has been informed, although his identity is yet to be confirmed.
It is thought a post mortem investigation will be carried out tomorrow and DNA samples will be analysed to confirm the body, which was found on Sunday afternoon, is Mr Haines.
He was last seen at 8am on Monday, December 6, on Priory Road, Lundwood. His family reported him missing at approximately 9.30pm on Wednesday, December 8.
