A MAN originally from Barnsley is a knock out in China after training the World Boxing Organisation China National Champion.
Paul Clemit from Colley Crescent, Kendray, arrived in Shanghai ten years ago with £200 to his name and has since opened a successful gym and had a hit TV show.
Paul’s newest challenge has been training a professional Chinese boxer called Qu Peng, a light heavyweight who originally comes from Huade County, Inner Mongolia, and who is now based in Shanghai.
Paul, 61, said: “He had already won the WBO China National Championship before I started training him and after a month or so, we started to build a very good relationship and I must say, he is one of the nicest people I have met here in China until he steps into the ring that is.
“On Saturday December 22 he boxed in the south west Chinese city of Chongqing, where he won the World Boxing Council Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation light heavyweight Championship with a first round technical knock out of Ugandan veteran boxer Joey Vegas.
“His record now reads 14 wins (10 knock outs) two losses and one draw.”
Paul is now hoping that this year he can continue to train Qu Peng and that he will continue his wins.
He said: “I hope he can carry on winning his fights, win another major Asian title and then move on to bigger and better things.”
